On Sunday, the bodies of two boys who went missing from the Wazirpur area of northwest Delhi were recovered from a canal near JJ Colony. This information was confirmed by an official.
The deceased have been identified as Vaibhav, aged 11, and Yash, aged 12, both residents of JJ Colony in Wazirpur and sixth-grade students.
According to police reports, the boys were close friends and had been missing since around 6 PM on Saturday.
A police officer stated, 'The Bharat Nagar police station received a report about the missing children on Saturday. Subsequently, the investigating officer questioned their parents and other family members.'
Based on the statement from Vaibhav's mother, Shanti Devi, a kidnapping case was registered, leading to the formation of multiple teams to apprehend the suspects.
The officer further explained, 'While the search was underway and CCTV footage from the area was being analyzed, we received information about two bodies floating in a canal near JJ Colony in Wazirpur. A team from Bharat Nagar police station arrived at the scene and, with the help of local divers, retrieved the bodies.'
The boys were identified by their family members. Police suspect that they may have gone swimming and accidentally drowned, as the water at that location is approximately 15-20 feet deep.
Authorities stated, 'The bodies have been secured for post-mortem examination, and further proceedings are ongoing.' They indicated that the investigation will determine if any foul play was involved.
